Julie Rish, PhD

Julie Rish, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist and Director of Design and Best Practice in the Office of Patient Experience at the Cleveland Clinic.  She is also the Director of Communication Skills Training and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.  Dr. Rish earned her doctorate degree from Loma Linda University and completed her pre- and post-doctoral training at Henry Ford Health Sciences Center and the Cleveland Clinic.  Her clinical and research interests include healthcare communication, patient experience, behavior change, and human centered design. She is a published author and manuscript reviewer for leading journals in obesity research.

Dr. Rish’s focus has been on applying human centered design to improve patient experience, and partnering with patients to transform healthcare.  She is actively engaged in identifying best practices for patient experience, the evaluation of this work and development of innovative strategies to improve healthcare.  She is passionate about improving experience for patients and caregivers, speaks nationally on this topic and was the recipient of the 2016 Press Ganey Success Story ® award and finalist for the 2018 Sherman Award.
